After years of mansplaining and insulting female co-stars, Ranbir Kapoor is being 'cancelled'

Actor may have grown quieter overtime but certainly silence isn't proof of improvement

Ranbir Kapoor is currently trending on Twitter for passing one problematic remark after another over a succession of years, learning little from his past mistakes. The Bollywood star has a reputation for embarrassing girlfriends and female co-stars onscreen. And since numerous Indian celebrities are currently facing the music for comments passed ages ago – some, that they even apologised for later on – Ranbir’s closet of skeletons had to be no exception.

The actor’s tendency to mansplain has also served as a stark reminder for the most conceivable reason behind his absence from social media till date; his PR team knows better. Thus, here’s presenting some of Ranbir’s problematic interviews that have popped up on social media in light of his “cancellation,” – interviews that may continue to haunt him till Brahmastra’s release.

The time he fat-shamed Alia

The recent incident took place during a live session for Brahmastra, joined by film director-writer Ayan Mukerji. Fans took the opportunity to inquire about promotional plans for the upcoming trilogy, which stars the newly-married couple Ranbir and Alia Bhatt. While responding to the question, Alia shared that they [the makers] haven’t yet “phailed [spread]” the film, but will soon do so.

Shockingly, Ranbir interrupted the Gangubai Kathiawadi star to quip that someone else had “phailoed” instead, taking a jab at Alia’s growing baby bump. Appearing visibly unsettled, Alia quickly diverted the conversation back to the film, elevating the awkward tension. However, many on social media have since been calling out Ranbir for body-shaming his pregnant wife.

The time(s) he mansplained Katrina

Ranbir and Katrina Kaif dated for a year back in day and there’s was among the most talked-about relationships of the time. But certain interviews from their film promotion quests together had put Ranbir in the limelight for being a “misogynist”. Maya, a Twitter user, shared an entire thread of such interviews.

An instance from the promotions of the 2010 political thriller Rajneeti, saw Katrina struggling to adjust her collar mic that kept slipping inside her blouse. Surrounded by men, Ranbir, said jokingly: "Do you want me to fix it?” Katrina, visibly furious, told him, “You don’t do things like that.”

Another clip from the thread saw an interviewer asking Ranbir some basic questions while Kat sat facing him. “Why is he getting such nice questions?” she inquired, addressing the interviewer. Ranbir lashed out, “Shut up and let me answer my questions.” Without loosing her cool, Katrina asked the cameraman, “The recording is on, right?” reminding Ranbir that he was being watched. Unhinged, Ranbir continued, “You’re interrupting everything.” He then told the host, “I want freedom to have my space to answer my questions, okay?”

A clip from a comedy show saw Ranbir passing a tongue in cheek jibe at Katrina’s acting, while in one more, he mansplained her role for her.

“I think that’s an important part of the story as,” said Katrina, before being interrupted by Ranbir, “…but it’s not really treated as just a romantic film. She treats him like a kid, like he knows nothing.

Katrina stopped him to air her grievance, “In real life, he treats me like a kid, like I know nothing because he won’t let me finish my sentences.” Ranbir argued, “But they’re talking about the film,” before moving on to talk more about Katrina’s character for her. “You do realise you’re talking about my character while I’m sitting right here, right?” she asked him. “Yeah, but you’re not saying it properly,” replied Ranbir, incessantly.

Another such clip saw Ranbir refusing to face the camera while wearing sunglasses inside a studio. “Bad attitude,” said Katrina, “He thinks he can do a far better job than anyone else,” she complained. “I don’t know about anybody else but I can certainly do a better job than you,” he told her.

The time he called Anushka ‘The Anxiety Queen’

In case you thought you’ve had enough, there’s more. A clip of Ranbir calling Anushka “The Anxiety Queen” before moving on to tell the world about her struggles with mental health, and mocking her for the same, has also resurfaced.

In what appears to be an interview during the promotions of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Ranbir can be seen mocking his co-star’s anxiety and going as far as making her medication public. “Anushka is the anxiety queen… She takes anti-anxiety pills even if she has to have a conversation because she is frantic… She has a medical problem, she has mental problems also, and a hygiene problem, but we accept her. She’s precious,” he declares.

Struggling to keep a straight face, Anushka is seen attempting to stop him, to no avail. “She’s a mess, yes, she’s mess,” Anushka resorts to saying while laughing, without really seeming amused.
