Anticipated merger of Pindigheb with Talagang opposed

PML-N leader says Attock residents will take to the streets in case of forced decision

HASSANABDAL:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Mir Naveed has said that residents of Attock district will oppose the likely merger of Pindigheb with the (expected) Talagang district.

He said that the residents of Pindigheb tehsil have rejected the merger plan and they want a separate district with its own boundaries in case they were separated from Attock district.

He said that apart from Khushab and Narowal districts, there were numerous other examples where a tehsil was given the status of a district, and later, parts of the particular district were given the status of the tehsil.

He said that to form a district, it was not necessary to determine the width of the area but a district is made as per the wishes of the people.

He said that the people of Attock will never accept the formation of the Talagang district if it impacts the boundaries of the Attock district. Instead, they would protest and will not remain silent until their due rights were secured. Even an inch of land from Pindigheb or Jund will not be given to the expected Talagang district, he said.

Addressing the Punjab chief minister, he said that Pervaiz Elahi lost the vote from across the province back in 2008, but, this was the only constituency where he won and became the deputy prime minister.

“Today, when the time has come to work for the improvement of the region, he (Elahi) has turned away his face and was sacrificing the region which helped him in his hard time in the past. Do not be unwise and do justice to the residents of Attock,” he said.
