BAJAUR:

Targeted attacks at police continue in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) as two more police constables were killed in an IED blast in Dama Dola, Bajaur tribal district on Friday.

Police told The Express Tribune that miscreants had planted an IED device near the police post in Dama Dola, Mamond which went off with a big bang.

“There is a back door in the post and the home-made IED device had been planted just outside it.

It was detonated when two policemen, head constable (HC) Saeedur Rehman and constable Inayatur Rehman, went out of the post for some urgent work,” said an official, adding that both of them were left seriously injured in the blast who were rushed to the Khar Hospital but they had succumbed to their injuries before reaching there.

The last rites of the slain policemen were offered at police lines and attended by District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Sumad Khan, district administration and security forces officials.

DPO confirmed the death of two policemen and said that the blast took place near Chohtra Check Post in Dama Dola in Mamond Tehsil.

“A search operation has been launched in the area and a large contingent of police has been sent for this purpose,” he said.

Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has condemned the attack at police in Bajaur and condoled the death of two cops in the blast.

He said that those responsible would be brought to justice as they could not escape the wrath of law for long.

He said that the entire nation shared the grief and sorrow of the bereaved families.

It may be mentioned here that on Tuesday, two policemen were gunned down during anti-polio vaccination duty in Tank district of the province.

The attackers, as usual, managed to escape after committing the crime.

The attack took place at a time when security had been beefed up across the district for the protection of vaccination teams.

Attacks at police have increased suddenly after the Taliban takeover of Kabul last year in August after the withdrawal of US forces.

North and South Waziristan tribal districts in former Fata are the main area of activity for miscreants but attacks are also taking place in nearly all districts including Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Tank, DI Khan, Kohat and Bannu.

In a separate incident police foiled an attempt to make SHO and his team hostage by terrorists in Wazir Sub-Division of Bannu.

Police said that terrorists reached an isolated check post in the mountains and said that they wanted to talk to the SHO.

“When SHO reached to talk to them he, along with his team, was made hostage but policemen deployed in the post responded and opened fire at the militants.

“The accurate firing at miscreants forced them to flee but two policemen have been left injured in the attack,” said an official, adding that it was a near miss.
