ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday directed the National Assembly speaker's office and other parties to submit their replies by August 22 on a petition against the phase-wise acceptance of resignations of PTI MNAs.

Acting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case.

During the proceedings, the acting CJ remarked that the whole world knew about the request except the Speaker Secretariat, adding that the issue was just that “come and tell whether the resignations have been accepted or not”.

Faisal Chaudhary Advocate took the stand that the process of verification and approval of resignations had been completed.

The court questioned the notice on the application, saying that the speaker's office should tell why the resignations were not approved?

The then deputy speaker, who was the acting speaker, issued an office order regarding resignations which needed to be accepted or rejected.

The court also heard PTI's petition to stop by-elections in 9 constituencies

The acting CJ said, “You have come to the court to stop the by-election of nine constituencies.”

Faisal Chaudhary Advocate replied, “You had asked why the election schedule was challenged.”

The NA speaker’s representative requested for time to file the reply, on which the hearing was adjourned till August 22.
