Traffic police issue diversion plan
A three-day traffic plan has been issued by the traffic police for mourning processions of Muharram.
Many roads in old city area will be sealed for mourning processions. As per the Karachi Traffic police, no vehicle will be allowed to park on the procession route, the traffic will be diverted through alternative routes.
As per the routes charted by the city administration in consultation with the leaders of the Shia community, the 8th Muharram procession will start from Nishtar Park, it will pass through Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Road, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, again on MA Jinnah Road, Baba-e-Urdu Road, Altaf Hussain Road, Bolton Market, Bombay Bazar and Nawab Mohabbat Khanji Road and culminate at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah Kharadar.
The 9th Muharram procession will start from Imambargah Martin Road. The participants of the procession will reach Nishtar Park at 12 noon where majlis will be held. Later, the procession will pass through Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Road, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, MA Jinnah Road, Baba-e-Urdu Road, Altaf Hussain Road, Bolton Market, Bombay Bazaar and Nawab Mohabbat Khanji Road and end at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah Kharadar.
The main procession of Ashura will start from Nishtar Park. This procession will also pass through Sir Shahnawaz Bhutto Road, MA Jinnah Road, Mansfield Street, Preedy Street, again MA Jinnah Road, Baba-e-Urdu Road, Altaf Hussain Road, Bolton Market, Bombay Bazaar and Nawab Mohabbat Khanji Road and end at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah Kharadar.
During the processions, the traffic coming towards the city will be diverted from Anklesaria Hospital intersection to Nishtar Road.
Traffic coming from District Central will be diverted from Lasbella to Garden, traffic coming from University Road will be allowed to pass through New MA Jinnah Road, traffic of the Superhighway will pass through Liaquatabad No. 12, Habib Bank chowrangi and Shershah to Maripur Road. It should be remembered that all the entrances and exits to from Gurumandir to Tower will be closed by placing containers from Saturday evening. No vehicle is allowed to enter the said route without a pass, traffic police said.
