'What's Love Got To Do With It?': Sajal Aly's first look from Jemima's film finally revealed!

The actor plays the pivotal character of Maymouna

The wait is over! We finally have the first look of celebrated Pakistani star, Sajal Aly, from her international debut, What's Love Got To Do With It?. Variety exclusively revealed a picture of the Dhoop Ki Deewar star, clad in a blush pink shalwar kameez with her head covered with dupatta. Her hair is neatly kept in a simple braid and her makeup is minimal. She is surrounded by her loved ones in the picture.

From the looks of it, it seems like Aly embodies what society considers a 'perfect bride.' The Aangan star, too, took to social media and shared the same look. "I am thrilled to share my first look from What's Love Got To Do With It?" She added, "And also the exciting news that the Toronto International Film Festival will host its World Premiere on Saturday, September 10."

The actor plays the pivotal character of Maymouna. “I love to play characters that have depth and define the narrative of a project and I think I am very fortunate that my character Maymouna in my international English-language debut ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It?’ has also given me the same opportunity,” Aly told the publication.

The outlet further shed light on the plot of the production of Jemima Goldsmith - a celebrated author and ex-wife of former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan. The publication shared, "What’s Love Got to Do With It? follows documentary-maker and dating app addict Zoe (Lily James), for whom swiping right has only delivered an endless stream of Mr Wrongs, to her eccentric mother Cath’s (Emma Thompson) dismay."

The statement added, "For Zoe’s childhood friend and neighbor Kaz (Shazad Latif), the answer is to follow his parents’ example and opt for an arranged (or “assisted”) marriage to a bright and beautiful bride from Pakistan. As Zoe films Kaz’s journey from London to Lahore to marry a stranger, chosen by his parents, she begins to wonder if she might have something to learn from a profoundly different approach to finding love."

What's Love Got To Do With It? will hit the cinemas on January 27 next year. The cross-cultural rom-com stars Lily James, Shazad Latif, Emma Thompson, Shabana Azmi, Aly, Mim Shaikh and Asim Chaudhry and has been written by Khan. The film has been directed by Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur.

In 2020, it was announced that the journalist would be writing and producing her first film - a romantic comedy - What's Love Got To Do With It? under the banner of her company Instinct Production. The film is set in London and Lahore. According to the Daily Mail, Goldsmith was inspired by her marriage to the premier and the film seems to be her take on it.
