AIOU to mark August as ‘independence month’

Students, teachers to take part in several events throughout the month

ISLAMABAD:

Allama Iqbal Open University is celebrating the entire month of August as the independence month.

An awareness walk, dialogues, national song and essay competitions, speeches, baitbazi, painting, tree planting, flag hoisting, cake cutting, and many other events will be a part of these celebrations.

Vice Chancellor, AIOU, Dr Zia ul-Qayyum stated that a single day is not enough to celebrate independence, therefore, AIOU will hold celebrations for an entire month to explain the meaning of freedom to the new generation in a better way. He stated that “we will also organise nationwide events in regional offices regarding the 75th Independence Day of our beloved homeland.”

According to Director Student Affairs, Rana Tariq Javed, a schedule of events for the entire month has been prepared, the events will begin in the first week of August with an awareness walk, led by the VC, AIOU, Dr Zia Ul-Qayyum. Deans, Principal Officers, teachers, and students will participate in the awareness walk.

A national song competition will also be organised between the students of Allama Iqbal Open University and other educational institutions in twin cities on August 10. On August 16, there will be a speech competition on the topic "Are we following the objectives of Tehreek-e-Pakistan?” There would also be a plantation drive to highlight the concept of green Pakistan on August 17.

On August 19, a baitbazi competition will be held between students on Tehreek e Pakistan. Moreover, a painting competition will be held on August 24. An essay writing competition will also take place on August 30. Cash prizes of 5,000, 3,000, and 2,000 will be awarded to the first three position holders respectively.
