A fundraising event for an NGO providing free meals and raising orphans was attended by a number of philanthropists and celebrities.
Philanthropist Dr Amjad Saqib, renowned actor Firdous Jamal, cricketer Abid Ali and a number of bureaucrats, civil society activists, politicians and businesspeople were among those preset on the occasion. Stage actor Iftikhar Thakar acted as stage secretary while classical music maestro Ustad Hamid Ali Khan also performed at the event.
Almarah Foundation chairperson Sofia Waraich spoke about the organsiation and its work, stating that it was the brainchild of her late father Major Rasheed Waraich. Almarah was founded in 1995 with an initial mission to feed the hungry.
She added that the organisation had branched out to raising orphans for a year, renting a house in the Cavalry Ground area to serve as an orphanage. She expressed a resolve and wished for such projects to be replicated.
Dr Amjad Saqib from Akhuwat organisation stated that that the NGO donated used clothes, domestic items and other goods to those in need. He added that the spirit of sacrifice is donating the most valuable items to others in the name of God.
