The second spell of monsoon brought light to moderate rains in different city areas on Monday.

During the past two days, the highest rain 68mm was recorded in Gulshan-e-Hadeed. The temperature dropped due to cloudy weather in the city. The depression over the Arabian Sea weakened and turned into a low air pressure.

The city today (Tuesday) is likely to witness drizzle and light rain.

A third cyclonic storm entering from Rajasthan, India may cause rain in the city on July 24, the Meteorological Department said.

The weather remained cloudy in most parts of the city, while bright sun shine witnessed in some areas. However, at 11 o'clock in the morning, there was light to moderate rain, recorded in different areas including Bahadurabad, PIB Colony, PECHS, Quaidabad, New Karachi, Sarjani Town and Model Colony.

According to the alert issued by the Meteorological Department, the direction of the depression in the northeast Arabian Sea is seen moving towards the west during the last 12 hours. The depression weakened on Monday morning and changed to a less depressive intensity. The rainfall system is in the southwest of Karachi over the central parts of the northern Arabian Sea, while maximum winds at the centre of the system are 40-50 km/ph. The system will move westward (towards Oman coast). Even today there is a possibility of rain with thunder at few places in different districts of Balochistan such as Lasbela, Athal, Sonmiani, Ormara, Pasni, Gwadar, Jiwani, Turbat, Awaran and Kech.

Heavy rains may cause water logging/urban flooding in low lying areas of Pasni, Gawadar, Jiwani, Turbat, Awaran and Kech.

According to Chief Meteorologist, Sardar Sarfraz, there is no possibility of heavy rains in Karachi now, however, there may be light rain fall in some parts of the city. During the next three days, after the recovery of sea breezes, rain and drizzle are also expected in the city due to low-level clouds.

Sardar Sarfraz mentioned monsoon is fully active, another monsoon chain may enter Sindh through Rajasthan on July 22, which may affect upper Sindh, while on July 24, some districts of lower Sindh, including Karachi, may experience the effects of it in the form of rain.

He said that a better forecast in this regard will be possible in the coming days.

According to the Met Office forecast, the maximum mercury in the city on Monday was recorded at 31.7 degrees Celsius while the humidity in the air was 79 per cent.
