Private hospitals given two weeks
The YDA office bearers, addressing a press conference on Sunday, said that it was unfortunate that a post graduate trainee doctor was paid less than a technician at the Lahore Medical and Dental College (LMDC). They said a house officer was getting Rs14,000, while a post graduate trainee Rs10,000 at the LMDC.
“This is in sheer violation of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) rules. PMDC is reluctant to take action against the college, as the hospital owners have an influence in the PMDC,” they said.
The speakers included Dr Rana Sohail, Dr Salman Kazmi, Dr Talha Sherwani, Dr Khuda Baksh, Dr Khawar Khan, Dr Khalid Idrees, Dr Kamran Yousaf and Dr Asad.
They said that medical and dental colleges had 100 seats for MBBS students and 50 for BDS. Each student, they said, was charged Rs600,000 per year.
They said by refusing then house jobs these hospitals forced their graduates to work in public medical colleges and hospitals without any pay.
The young doctors appealed to the PMDC President Dr Sibtul Hasnain Syed, CPSP President Dr Zafarullah Chaudhry and UHS vice chancellor Dr Mubashar Malik to take action against these colleges and hospitals.
The YDA office bearers demanded that the monthly salary of a house officer be fixed at Rs24,000, and that of a post graduate trainee at Rs42,500 and that of a medical officer at Rs50,000.
They gave colleges and hospitals a two-week ultimatum to meet the demands.
