SHC restrains ACE from taking action against Haleem Adil Sheikh

Decision only applies to pending inquiries; in other cases action should be taken in accordance with law

KARACHI:

Sindh High Court restrained Anti-Corruption Department from taking action against Haleem Adil Sheikh on a petition pertaining to pending inquiries and harassment.

A two-judge bench headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro heard the petition filed by Haleem Adil Sheikh regarding anti-corruption inquiries and harassment.

PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh appeared before the court where his counsel stated that his client and his family was being harassed by the Sindh government by conducting raids at their residence at night.

The court inquired public prosecutor how many inquiries were pending.

The public prosecutor requested the court to give him time to gather information from ACE. The bench issued directive refraining ACE from taking action in pending inquiries.

The public prosecutor said that Haleem Adil Sheikh would get full immunity from the move.

The court asked Haleem Adil's lawyer how many inquiries there are against his client.

Petitioner's counsel stated that two inquiries were pending against his client.

The court remarked that since when are these inquiries pending?

The lawyer stated that these inquiries are pending from 2019.

The court barred to take action against Haleem Adil Sheikh till August 3.

The decision only applies to pending inquiries. The court remarked that in other cases, however, action should be taken in accordance with the law.

The court sought reply from the anti-corruption authorities till August 3 and sought details of inquiries against Haleem Adil Sheikh.
