Man kills ex-wife, injures four others

Police arrest suspect and register case against him

A man shot and killed his ex-wife and injured four others, including his former mother-in-law in Quaid-e-Azam Colony on the first day of Eidul Azha.

Police said that the suspect named Munir Alam Khan broke into the house and opened fire at the family members who were busy cleaning the house after performing the ritual on the first day of Eid.

They added that the accused fired more than 24 shots from a 30 bore pistol.

One of the injured is said to be in critical condition.

Police claim to have arrested the accused along with the weapon.

The deceased woman was fed up with her husband's bad behaviour and beatings and had taken a divorce eight months ago.

She was the sister of a TV journalist.

The Punjab government had taken notice of the firing at the journalist's house on Eid day and directed the commissioner Rawalpindi to provide better medical treatment to all the injured.

According to SHO Dhamial Owais Akram, Khan came to kill his exwife, Maryam Hashmi, 40.

He shot her in the head and she died instantly, he added.

He also shot and injured his Tayyaba Khatun, 72, two sisters Mamoona Hashmi, 34, Kanwal Hashmi, 36, and brother Basit Hashmi, 42.

After receiving information about the incident, Rescue 1122 reached the spot.

The body was shifted to District Headquarters Hospital while the injured were shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital.

According to doctors, the condition of the victim's mother is critical.

In the first operation, the bullet that hit her in the abdominal has been removed but still she is in critical condition due to excessive bleeding.

The condition of the other injured is out of danger.

Police have registered a case against the accused under the provisions of murder, attempted murder and other provisions on the complaint of Basit Hashmi, who was injured in the firing of his ex-brother-in-law.
