Several areas of Karachi received heavy to moderate rains on Thursday as the monsoon system from the Arabian Sea continue to lash the port city for the third consecutive day.
According to Express News, Gadap Town, Surjani Town, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Jinnah Old Terminal, Tariq Road, Defence View, FC Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Guru Mandir, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Nazimabad and other areas received the downpour for several hours.
However, the city of light plunged into darkness due to power outages in the different areas of the city. According to K-Electric (K-E), the power company's staff was resolving the faults reported by the people.
The city is likely to receive thundershowers till July 9.

Meanwhile, rain with wind-thundershower is expected in Balochistan, Sindh, Kashmir, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan during the next 12 hours.

Heavy falls are also likely at a few places in Kashmir, South Punjab and eastern Balochistan during the period.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also issued a fresh advisory to authorities concerned in view of the upcoming monsoon spell on Eid.

In a press release, the authority has specifically advised rescue departments to make personnel, staff and equipment available to cope with any rain or flood-related emergency.
It has also advised the relevant departments to ensure pre-placement of necessary inventory and equipment at vulnerable locations to back-up generators for de-watering pumps in case of urban flooding.

Furthermore, the NDMA has instructed relevant departments to coordinate with other relevant departments for restoration of roads and pre-placement of necessary machinery at strategic locations to respond to land-sliding immediately.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a statement, directed all concerned departments to intensify rain and flood relief operations in different parts of the country, especially in Balochistan.
He expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives and property due to rains and floods.
The premier directed National and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities to take immediate action in Quetta, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, Pishin, Harnai , Khushnoob, Qamaruddin and Muslim Bagh areas of Balochistan.
He also directed effective coordination in relief and rescue operations in rain-affected areas of Punjab Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh, especially in Karachi.
The prime minister also directed the ministers and members of parliament from the affected areas to assist in the rescue and relief measures.
