Rivals flash victory sign over SC decision
The lawmakers belonging to both the treasury and the opposition benches have claimed the Supreme Court’s decision in their favour.
The Supreme Court has ruled that the election for the Punjab chief minister’s slot will be held on July 22.
As per the Lahore High Court’s order issued on Thursday, the Punjab Assembly session was to be held on Friday for recounting of votes of chief minister’s election that had been held on April 16.
However, the turnout at the Punjab Assembly on Friday was very low since the lawmakers’ eyes had been fixed on the proceedings at the country’s top court where the PTI had challenged the previous day’s order of the LHC, contending that they had not been granted sufficient time for the election run-off nor had the court set aside the CM’s election or his oath.
The PML-N lawmakers said the PTI’s efforts to get the CM removed from his post did not succeed while the PTI lawmakers said it was their greatest achievement since the date of the contest for the CM’s slot had been taken forward to July 22.
