Punjab HEC approves Rs2.1b for Pindi colleges

Money will be spent on setting up four new colleges, multi-purpose halls in eight colleges

The Punjab Higher Education Commission has approved Rs2.1 billion for 14 education related mega projects including the construction of four associate boys and girls colleges, the construction of new buildings for two colleges, the construction of laboratories and libraries and new multi-purpose halls in eight colleges in the Rawalpindi district.

Earlier, the directorate of colleges Rawalpindi had sought over Rs2 billion in the new financial year from the Punjab Higher Education Commission.

Of the new colleges, one will be set up in Murree, one in Gujar Khan, one in Kotli Satian and one in Rahk Sarkar in Rawalpindi tehsil. The Government Boys Associate College in Gujar Khan is estimated will cost Rs300 million, the Government Girls' College in Rawalpindi will cost Rs200 million, the Government Boys College in Kotli Satian will cost Rs200 million and the Government Girls College in New Murree will cost Rs200 million. These four new colleges will cost a total of Rs900 million.

A tpotal of Rs360 million be spent on the construction of new buildings of Chakri College and Associate College Kahuta.

While Rs50 million would be spent on the construction of a new large hall in Girls College Khayaban-Sir-Syed, Rs180 million for the construction of a new academic block in Chak Bailey Khan College, Rs150 million for the construction of a new block at Gujar Khan Women's College, Rs150 million for the construction of a new block and a laboratory at Hashmat Ali Islamia College, Rawalpindi, Rs80 million for the construction of a library and a science lab at Women's College Dhok Ratta, Rs150 million for the construction of new hall and block in Kallar Syedan College, Rs50 million for the construction of four walls of Associate College Sunny Bank Murree and Rs50 million will be spent on the construction of a computer lab at Daulatullah College.

The construction of four new associate colleges would resolve the problem of first-year and third-year admissions in the Rawalpindi district. All these education-related projects will be completed within a year.
