11,000 cops to join force
Karachi Police Chief Javed Alam Odho has said 11,000 personnel will join Karachi police after completing their training in the next six to eight months.
Induction of policemen will help in controlling crime, Odho said talking to The Express Tribune at his office. Total strength of Karachi police is around 42,000 personnel while the total required strength for manning the port city is around 60,000.
Additional IG Odho said that appointment of 11,000 personnel, the total strength of Karachi Police will be closer to 53,000, which will enhance the capabilities of Karachi Police.
All work has been completed on the project of installing electronic tracker devices for habitual criminals and accused released on bail, but police are waiting for legislation in this regard.
As soon as the relevant law is enacted, police will start putting trackers on habitual criminals and those released on bail.
Odho said work on Safe City Project has started and installation of CCTV cameras in Red-Zone would be completed within two years.
He said that a committee has been constituted to conduct an impartial inquiry into the cases of blacklisted police officers who have been booked in the line of duty and any police officer found innocent will be reinstated.
Moreover, he assured of restoring vigilance system in collaboration with the community to curb other crimes, including street crimes.
He said that snatching of mobile phones, motorcycles and vehicles has decreased in the city during the last three weeks. Police conducted a total of more than 24 encounters during the time.
