This time, actors Ayesha Omar and Ahsan Khan became the face of online trolling and unwelcome comments after Omar posted a behind-the-scenes clip on Instagram of their new romantic comedy Rehbra.
The clip, which showed the actors riding a horse and sharing a pleasant interaction on-set, was immediately met with ridicule. Comments ranged from careless trolling about the scene itself to inappropriate implications about the nature of the relationship between Omar and Khan, who are also good friends in real life.
Omar and Khan were quick to respond on their personal profiles, with Omar adding in a short note in her original post’s caption. In the note, Omar clarifies the context of the clip, including the cast keeping up morale in the midst of difficult shooting conditions. She wraps up her note by shutting down all unfounded rumors about a romantic relationship between her and Khan.
Khan also posted an Instagram story to defend the film from the trolls, taking a more humorous approach. He directly addresses the trolls who have torn apart a simple scene from the film.
Trolling has become an unfortunate recurrence in the local social media sphere, with celebrities becoming a frequent target. However, it is refreshing to see them fight back with toughness and humor, not letting the trolling hold them back from sharing their work with the masses.
