Movie: Kamli
Released on June 3rd, this beautifully woven narrative is Sarmad Khoosat's long-awaited comeback. Starring the exceedingly talented Saba Qamar, and introducing Hamza Khawaja, the storyline is embellished with stunning symbolism. It narrates the tale of the human condition, where one experiences love, loss, pain, heartache, grief and psychological turmoil. Despite the fact that the content of the film was previously considered to be suitable for a niche audience, Kamli has garnered exceptional reviews, with cinema-goers actively praising the soulful art the team has created on the big screen. Moreover, it has also been touted to be one of the best films to come out of Pakistan, making it a must-watch for all those who have yet to experience this masterpiece.
Song: KYUN (Karakoram, Hasan Raheem)
Pakistani music is the gift that keeps on giving, and the most recent parcel of brilliance has, undoubtedly, been Hasan Raheem. While his Coke Studio mega hit 'Peechay Hutt' continues to make global waves, the young singer has also collaborated with the neo-alternative rock music group, Karakoram, for a dark, edgy, yet vital song called, 'KYUN.' With lyrics that place mental health at the centre of the conversation, and Hasan's mind-boggling range and haunting voice, the song perfectly encapsulates feeling claustrophobic within one's own mind, falling into a deep void, whilst the world continues to move on externally. This song does not just captivate one, but makes one feel heard and understood as well.
Show: The Boys Season 3 (Amazon Prime Video)
Gritty, dark comedy, unapologetic irreverance, blatant social and political messages, and sheer disdain for the world of superheroes - all of this combines to create the Amazon Prime Video hit series, 'The Boys.' A team of rag-tag, ordinary humans goes up against the largest superhero-producing conglomerate, shedding light on everything Marvel and DC hesitate to talk about within their respective cinematic universes. For anyone who's ever taken a minute to think about the idea of collateral damage in the world of superhuman beings, The Boys addresses that and more. With its third season up and running, now is the ideal time to begin binge-watching the show. With great power comes great responsibility? Watch the show to find out.
