Bollywood actor, Varun Dhawan recently took to twitter in support of a fan alleging she and her mother are victims of domestic abuse at the hands of her father. The actor was swift in his response to the girl who tweeted that despite seeking help from the Gujarat police, no strict measures have been taken. In a six-part thread, she detailed the instances of physical and verbal abuse along with lack of measures taken, adding that the police are only able to keep her father ‘in jail for 24 hours’.

The tweet stated, “Respected Sir, I have been beaten and abused by my father several times. He abuses me and my mother every single day. For days, he doesn't let me eat food and also threatens us by using curse words and abusive language.” She goes on to explain the failure on part of authorities to provide her and her mother justice, “Now, despite showing all the proof and stating all the facts about the domestic violence my mother has been facing over the years, the Gujarat Police is unable to do anything about it apart from keeping him in jail for 24 hours. After he gets released, he repeats the same actions against us”.

Having not received help for years, the girl urged authorities and the actor to help her. The tweet soon reached the Student of the Year star, who claimed he would support her. “This is an extremely serious matter and if this is true, I will help you and speak to the authorities”. Responding to Varun’s tweet with gratitude the girl said, “I – thank you so much vede. I'll forever be grateful to you”. Fans were quick to applaud the actor on his eagerness to take action as many responded with comments of praise.

Varun is also currently promoting his comedy-drama film, Jugjugg Jeeyo, helmed by Raj Mehta, starring Kiara Advani, Neetu Kapoor and Anil Kapoor, set to hit cinemas on June 24th, 2022.
