After years of focusing on romance and comedy films, Pakistan’s film industry seems to be navigating their way down a path of thriller offerings. Carma is an action-packed thriller revolving around themes of vengeance and female empowerment, aiming to highlight issues such as child labour, paedophilia and adultery. The film is said to be inspired by the works of acclaimed Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino and is set with a backdrop of revenge, murder and betrayal. The film's first official trailer recently dropped on Youtube revealing its non-linear storyline based around a young man involved in what seems to be a love affair gone wrong, abducted by a female led gang.

Receiving an overwhelming response from netizens, the trailer has caused a stir of excitement for its much awaited release. The upcoming thriller directed and produced by Kashan Admani features seasoned actor Adnan Siddiqui alongside Zhalay Sarhadi, Navin Waqar and Osama Tahir. The trailer reveals several adrenaline-heavy moments such as a car chase scene with the cinematographer, Farhan Golden, credited for the Hollywood-like element of the film.

It explores several aspects of the storyline ranging from love affairs to late night high-speed chases and abductions with a hefty dose of violence and bloodshed. The opening clip takes place in an abandoned plot with an eerie nighttime setting where a parked car can be spotted, immediately segueing into a gruesome clip of a woman with pliers preparing to cut off a man's finger.

Sarhadi, who plays the role of a gang leader, is sat with her gang members as they plan the abduction. The trailer features her at several moments wearing a bold red lip colour, an indication of her fearless character as she escapes from a childhood marred by abuse to enter the world of crime.

Despite being a thriller, the film appears to be packed with emotional scenes exploring a world of love and loss. The film's title is a play on the words ‘car’ and ‘karma’. Co-produced and written by Fawad Hai, the film’s release date is yet to be announced, however, its trailer has left Pakistanis feeling impatient to watch this action packed thriller!
