Death toll rises to two in hotel roof crash

Management says doing everything possible to assist affected and their families

Another victim of roof collapse at Pearl-Continental Hotel died of his injuries during treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) raising the death toll to two on Friday.

The false ceiling of a lobby in the city's iconic five-star hotel had collapsed on Thursday night. A man was killed on the spot and three others were injured in the cave-in. One of the injured died Friday during treatment.

People have shared videos and images of the incident on various social media platforms showing rubble in hotel's lobby.

Meanwhile, the management of Pearl-Continental Hotel Karachi in a statement issued on Friday said it is grateful for all the support that it has received from its associates, local administration and well-wishers after the tragic incident at Pearl-Continental Hotel Karachi, last evening.

"This is a difficult time for everyone impacted by this accident and we are doing everything possible to provide support and assistance to the affected and their families," the statement read.

The hotel management said that the local administration and all authorities concerned have inspected and cleared the site. The hotel continues to remain open and fully functional for its guests and visitors, the statement said.
