The human version of misogyny and macho-ness is returning to big screens soon! After the raving success of Anees Bazmee directorial Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, Indian filmmakers Bhushan Kumar and Murad Khetani expressed their interest in the sequel for their 2010 blockbuster Kabir Singh. The Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani-starrer dominated the box office for weeks despite some negative reviews.

According to Pinkvilla, the producer duo has confirmed their decision to spin Kabir Singh into a franchise as well. When Kumar and Khetani were asked about the projects they believe should form a franchise, the former reportedly smiled and named the romantic action drama. “I think our film Kabir Singh can definitely be spun into a franchise. It’s an iconic character and can be taken into a second part.” Echoing Kumar’s sentiment, Khetani nodded, “Yes, the character is so popular that we should think of a story for him.”

Earlier in 2019, Kabir Singh fascinated moviegoers so much that it had even crossed the INR 1 billion mark at the box office, as per ETimes. However, the movie eventually raked in bad publicity with film critics and social media users condemning Kapoor’s role in the movie, labelling it as “vile” for glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity.

It doesn’t end here though. Apart from Kabir Singh 2, Khetani added a third installment of Aashiqui to his wish list of sequels for future. Even though Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 released just two days ago, its success has got the producers working for its third franchise already. “We are definitely taking the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise forward. There is enough scope in the premise and we will announce more details at the right time,” the duo exclaimed in sync.

The producer pair definitely enjoys working together. Khetani and Kumar are also gearing up for their upcoming release, Animal. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial, which stars the groom-of-the-year Ranbir Kapoor in a lead role, reportedly holds “all elements for a big screen watch.”

“It’s a very interesting script and has got all the elements for big screen watch – heroism, music, entry, interval block, father emotion, mother emotion, scale, and action. Sandeep Reddy Vanga understands the sensibility of Hindi speaking audiences, since he comes from the South. Actually, their sensibility is in sync with the kind of films we made in the 1970s and 80s,” shared Kumar.
