PTI's Noor Alam Khan elected PAC chief unopposed

Alam says he will present himself for accountability first

ISLAMABAD:

Disgruntled Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Noor Alam Khan was elected as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) unopposed on Monday.

His name was suggested by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and supported by Senator Talha Mehmood.

Following Rana Tanveer Hussain's resignation, the position was vacant.

During Monday's session, senators belonging to the former ruling party remained absent.

After Khan was elected unopposed, the members of the committee congratulated him on his election.

Speaking to the media, the disgruntled PTI leader said that everybody would be held accountable and nobody would be given any favours. He said that he did not have personal enmity with anyone, but whoever becomes the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) would have to appear before the PAC.

He said that he would present himself for accountability first.

The newly-elected PAC chairman said that the country's economy would worsen with sit-ins, adding that these protests have a negative effect on the country.

Khan said that election would be held after a year. He also advised his party to hold dialogue with the government.
