MQM-P challenges election commission
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM) has challenged the legal of Sindh Election Commission in Sindh High Court.
Tariq Mansoor Advocate filed the petition on behalf of Kanwar Naveed Jamil, Javed Hanif Khan, Wasim Akhtar, Nayyar Raza, Rehan Hashmi and Moeed Anwar.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Election Commission of Pakistan, Election Commission of Sindh, Chief Secretary Sindh and others were made parties in the petition.
Mansoor Advocate contended that the members of the Election Commission are not complete. The MQM has asked the Supreme Court to declare the local body election schedule, district council boundaries and other decisions illegal and postpone the local body setup for 90 days. The petition states that the notification issued by the Election Commission on April 29 violates the constitution and laws.

The petition states that a notification regarding the election schedule was issued by the Election Commission on April 13, 2022. The notification of the first and second phase by the Election Commission is a violation of Section 32 (2) of the Sindh Local Government Act, 2013. The petition seeks that the decision of the Election Commission, including the schedule of local body elections, delimitation of the district councils and other decisions be declared illegal.
