Consumers have demanded the district administration to take effective steps to overcome the price hike of fruits and vegetables in the federal capital.
They complained that the prices of edible items have not come down despite the fact that local administration has set up Sasta Bazaars and fair price shops in the capital to facilitate people.
They said that the prices of both fruits and vegetables were not only high but their quality was also bad.
According to official list for Friday Bazaar and Sasta Bazaars, the price of potatoes has been fixed at Rs 31 per kg, but is being sold in the open market for Rs38 per kg.
Onions are being sold at Rs28 per kg instead of the official rate of Rs21. Fruits, too, are being sold above the market price. Nasir Ahmed, shopping at a local market, said, “It is unfortunate that traders are using Ramazan to make unfair profits.”
