Minor boy killed in citizen-robbers shootout

KARACHI:

A minor boy was killed in an exchange of fire between a citizen and robbers in New Karachi. The police reached the spot and shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

SSP Central Rana Maroof said that bike-riding suspects were robbing a citizen near Zeeshan Bakery in New Karachi's Sector XI/E when the citizen resisted and an exchange of fire ensued during which a nine-year-old boy Obaid, who was playing outside his house, sustained bullet injuries and died.

The SSP said that one of the robbers was also injured in the retaliatory firing of the citizen however his accomplice managed to take with him.

SHO New Karachi Shahid Taj said that he had no information that any dacoit was injured in the exchange of fire and escaped. The man who fired the shots is also missing and police are searching for him, he said.

Later it came to light that the citizen who fired on the robbers turned out to be a policeman.

In this regard, the SSP Central said that Constable Abdul Manan, who is stationed at Taimuria police station, was contacted by the police. He was standing outside his house with a friend when the robbers arrived and started looting and opened fire on resistance. However, he survived and returned fire with his licensed 9mm pistol and one of the suspects was reportedly injured.

Spent shells of 9mm and 30 bore pistols were found at the spot. Further investigation is underway.
