Man kills six, injures one of his family

Accused opened fire at his and in-law's houses, claims son was tortured by family

LAHORE:

A man opened fire at his and his in-laws houses in Lahore on Friday, killing six people including his parents and a teenage nephew.

According to police sources, 60-year-old Ghulam Hussain, 55-year-old Asiya Bibi, 35-year-old Raheela Khurram and 15-year-old Humayun Khurram along with 50-year-old Shagufta and 60-year-old Aslam, said to be the accused’s mother and father-in-law, died in the shooting.

The injured woman has been identified as 55-year-old Rani Bibi.

The man, identified as Abid, was later arrested on orders of the IG Punjab.

In his initial statement to the police, the accused claimed that the victims had tortured his son. Further investigation were underway.

A day earlier, unidentified men shot and killed a man named Zamrud in Chacha in the limits of Chauntra police station in Rawalpindi.

The police had registered a case and were looking into it.

According to preliminary investigation, the killing took place over personal enmity, said the police, adding that they were carrying out raids to arrest the culprits.

The same day, police arrested a man who strangled his two-year-old daughter to death at his house within the jurisdiction of Naseerabad police station a day earlier.

A case was registered against the suspect, named Gulab Shah, on the mother’s complaint, said the police.
