Unidentified suspects robbed roughly Rs2 million from a bank branch in North Nazimabad and escaped from the scene.
A large contingent of police and rangers rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.
Speaking to media representatives at the scene, SSP Central Maroof Usman said six suspects entered the bank while two remained outside.The guard resisted the robbers, on which, one of the accused hit him with the pistol butt and injured him. They took the money from the cash counter and rode away on motorbikes within seconds. The accused also opened fire inside the bank, breaking the glass of the cash counter and injuring the cashier.
SSP SIU Arif Aziz also arrived at the spot. He spoke to media representatives and said that the bank had a tiny security guard bunker, and the situation would have been different if the bank had followed the SOPs.
Police have obtained the CCTV video from nearby cameras, after which they will expand the scope of the investigation further.
