A woman allegedly attempted to commit self-immolation at a market where she went to buy groceries on Tuesday.

Vendors at the scene put out the fire and informed Rescue 1122. Police said the woman tried to commit suicide while the victim maintained she was set on fire by a boy who threw a cracker on her.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that it may have been a suicide attempt by the woman. The woman was rushed to a nearby hospital. Rubina Bibi, 45, a resident of 17th Street Tariqabad, was crossing a railway track near Abdullahpur Bridge to get grocery from the nearby market.

She informed the cops that, a teenager threw something at her which caused her dupatta and clothes to catch fire. Vendors selling fruit near Jhumra Road heard the noise Rubina was making and extinguished the fire by dousing her with water-soaked sacks.

After putting out the fire, they informed Rescue 1122. Rescue units rushed to the spot and shifted Rubina to Allied Hospital. SHO Mansoorabad Rana Maghfoor Ahmad said the statements of Rubina and her family members were recorded at the hospital and eyewitnesses were also questioned, but no one has confirmed that she was set on fire.

The victim also does not want to take any action against anyone. She suffered burn injuries.
