SLF ends with thought provoking discourse

Discussions held on digital future of language, script, and artificial intelligence

The fifth Sindh Literature Festival (SLF) held at the Arts Council of Pakistan in Karachi came to an end with all its colours on Sunday.

The last day of festival started with the launch of a book by Dr Zulfiqar The Universe, Life and Man, in which Dr Sikandar Mughal and Dr Zulfiqar spoke, while Dr Bakht Jamal was the moderator.

Dr Sikandar Mughal said that Dr Zulfiqar has closed in a jar three important issues universe, life and man, which was not an easy task. Human knowledge continues to lift veils from the relationship between scientific technology and the earth, Mughal said, adding that there is no discussion on radioactivity of earth, genetics and impact of technological development on human behaviour, but these topics are taught at the international level.

Dr Mughal said that artificial intelligence is changing society and social relations. Reading Dr Zulfiqar’s book will increase people’s knowledge. There are three parts of Dr Zulfiqar’s book in detail about history of human development, beliefs, and what was before the Big Bang. Many scientists think that Big Bang was not the start of the universe, he said. In the second session, Shabbir Kanyar’s book Digital Sindhi Language was discussed which was directed by Dr Ayub Sheikh. Language is the medium for cmmunication in the world.

“Our state should promote the regional languages,” Shabir Kanyar said adding that there should be websites for Sindhi and regional language newspapers just like for reading English newspapers. Obaid Thaeem said that there is still work to be done in English language calculation.

Abdul Majeed Bharti expressed his views through his video. Books on Sindhi Language including e Politics, Cinema, and Personality; Mirror of Sindhi Literature in Digital World; Modern World and Our Youth; Mother Language in Modern Literature; and Conversation with Amr Jalil were also unveiled.

Many writers spoke on the topics of Pakistan’s foreign policy in the current situation; the case of Mohatta Palace; Star of the Earth, and the past of print and electronic media. Provincial Minister for Information Saeed Ghani participated in the event.
