KARACHI:

The West district Sessions Court on Wednesday declared that illegal use of police force for evacuation of a house in Peerabad, Orangi Town, was an act of terrorism. The raid resulted in a shootout in which three people were killed

The court rejected the bail applications of 10 suspects, including former SHO of the Joharabad police station, Ghayyur Abbas and five police personnel.

The court said in its judgment that according to the contents of the case, the incident falls within the ambit of terrorism. Therefore, the bail application is not within the jurisdiction of the court. The judge said that challan of the case shows that the police assisted in taking possession of the house illegally.

The court also rejected the request to transfer the case to the anti-terrorism court. “This court does not have the administrative powers to transfer the case to the ATC,” the court remarked. According to police, a case was registered against the suspects at Peerabad police station.

Joharabad police station SHO Ghayyur Abbas had come with police mobiles to get a house illegally vacated in the limits of Peerabad police station. Ibrahim Shah and his grandsons Nisar Shah, Salman Shah and Iftikhar Shah had been fighting for a three-storey house in Orangi Town.
