KARACHI:

Seven bogies of a freight train derailed near Latifabad Unit No 7 Hyderabad on Saturday, suspending rail traffic on the up-country track.

Soon after, Pakistan Railways Chief Executive Officer Zafar Zaman Ranjha suspended Grade-17 Assistant Engineer Manzoor and Grade-16 Permanent Works Inspector Shehzad for negligence of duty and ordered an inquiry.

CEO Ranjha directed the concerned divisional superintendent to restore rail traffic and assure the passengers that they would not face any problems.

The railways officials informed that the freight train derailed when it was approaching the Hyderabad railway station while there were no reports of casualty or injury in the incident.

The trains heading towards Hyderabad railway station were stopped at Kotri.

The railways officials said that heavy machinery moved to put the bogies back on track, adding that it would take them a few hours to restore the rail traffic.
