A hearing was held by a bench headed by Justice KK Agha on the petition of Tariq Mansoor Advocate against non-control of prices of daily commodities including sugar and milk. Advocate Tariq Mansoor stated that despite the appointment of DG Bureau of Supply & Price, the department is inactive. The Bureau of Supply & Price which consists of 1,165 employees is not doing any work. The annual budget of the Bureau of Supply & Price is Rs65 crores. Its powers are being exercised by deputy commissioners.
It is not possible to control the prices of essential commodities due to misuse of power. The power to control the prices of goods has been given to the district administration. The district administration cannot pay due attention to the issue of prices due to workload.
