Apple's Safari may have never been able to beat Google's Chrome browser, but it had been the second most-used one for a while. However, recent data suggests that it might soon lose its place in the ranking.
Data shows that Safari is used by 9.84% of users followed behind by Microsoft Edge with 9.54% of desktop users. Firefox had only 8.1% of users but has recently begun gaining users rapidly in the market, coming with 9.18% of users. Google Chrome still dominates with 65.38% of users in the market.
Until January 2021, Apple Safari had 10,38% of users surfing the web with this browser, according to Stat Counter. Safari is the only browser available only on macOS, in comparison to other browsers that can be installed on Mac and Windows.
Critics at 9to5Mac believe that Safari's unpopularity with users may be because of their recent update where the address bar was unified with the top bar. After outcry amongst users, Apple was compelled to revert back to their old design.
However, it seems users still had enough reason to switch browsers with another. Another fact pointed out by the critic, is the length of time Apple takes to update its applications with security fixes and new features. Safari will have to be upgraded with new better features to win back its users and secure its position as the second most-used browser permanently.
