LAHORE:

Punjab Minister for Fisheries, Wildlife and Consolidation Syed Sumsam Ali Shah Bukhari inaugurated the Fisheries Research Complex and Apiculture Research Centre, developed by the Faculty of Life Sciences of the University of Okara

The inauguration was followed by a seminar where the minister discussed in detail the last three years of works done by his ministry for the breeding and conservation of various endangered species of animals in Punjab. The project is being supervised by Dr Muhammad Wajid.

“We are rapidly building controlled breeding facilities across the province. For this purpose, we have already provided 5,000 cages to farmers,” the minister said.

Highlighting the importance of academic research for this purpose, he said, “ministries need technical information and on-ground research work for carrying out their developmental projects and universities are the platforms to provide this.”

University of Okara Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar, while addressing the seminar, lauded Syed Sumsam’s role in the development and nurturing of the university over the years.

Commenting on the importance of the research complex, he said, “The UO has the vision of overall human development through research and capacity building and this research facility will help us change the economic dynamics of this region.”
