Governor warns against rule violation

BZU issues notification regarding exams of 10,000 students

LAHORE:

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar has told the Bahauddin Zakria University (BZU) vice chancellor that if there has been any breach of rules in the affiliation process of colleges and other matters, an inquiry should be held and disciplinary action taken in the light of the facts.

Action would be taken in accordance with the law against those responsible for any violation of rules, he said during a meeting on Thursday.

On the direction of the governor who is the chancellor of the BZU, the university issued the notification of a reserved decision of its syndicate about the fate of 10,000 students of 41 affiliated law colleges.

After the notification, the students have got the right of appeal to the governor and courts against the syndicate’s decision that has jeopardised their carrier.

The vice chancellor briefed the governor about the issue of obstruction in examination of around 10,000 students of 41 law colleges affiliated with the university. He disclosed that a syndicate meeting of the university was held over the issue but the decision of the meeting had not been issued yet.

The chancellor expressed his strong displeasure and asked why the decision had not been issued.

He directed the university to immediately issue a notification of the decision taken in the syndicate meeting, after which the university issued the notification.

An official privy to the developments disclosed most of the affected colleges did not meet the affiliation criteria in light of a court decision.

However, in connivance with some university officials, the colleges had managed to arrange one exam of the students.

However, they were told afterwards that they could not appear in examinations.

The students were attending classes but were not allowed to appear in the examinations for past three year, while the university had withheld the syndicate decision, apparently to avoid scrutiny about the earlier exams.
