RAWALPINDI:

In a major development, the Chiniot police have formally arrested Rizwan Habib, the former husband of slain US-Pakistani woman Wajiha Swati, in the murder case of her former husband.

Rizwan Habib, the former husband of Wajiha Swati, was taken into custody by the Chiniot police from Adiala jail after he was nominated in the murder case of Dr Mehdi Ali, the first husband of Wajiha Swati, who was murdered in 2014.

The Chiniot police took Rizwan Habib into custody after seeking a warrant from the court. Police in its written application to the court said that Rizwan Habib killed Wajiha's first husband and married her by showing false sympathy.

Police had pleaded with the court that the accused be handed over to Chiniot police for further investigation.

The court while accepting the police application issued an order to hand over the accused to Chiniot police and granted 24 hours physical remand of the accused and ordered that the accused should be presented before the Chiniot court on Wednesday, February 16.

After the court permission, the Chiniot police took Rizwan Habib from Adiala jail to the Chiniot police station for investigation.

Police said that Rizwan Habib married Wajiha after killing her first husband.
