Man jailed for second marriage without wife’s permission

Ghulam Hussain awarded six months’ imprisonment, Rs500,000 fine

LAHORE:

Police officials arrested a man after the Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed his pre-arrest bail he had filed requesting the court to set aside also his six month’s imprisonment awarded to him by a family court over solemnizing a second marriage without first wife’s consent.

Petitioner convict Ghulam Hussain had been awarded six months imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 in a case his first wife had filed against him over solemnizing second marriage without her (first wife’s) consent.

Meanwhile, the convict, rather than surrendering himself before the quarter concerned, filed a pre-arrest bail at the Lahore High Court requesting the court to set aside the imprisonment awarded to him by the trial court without applying judicial mind.

He then also requested the court to grant him a pre-arrest bail until the final decision of his appeal against the punishment.

As proceedings commenced at the Lahore High Court, Justice Aalia Neelum asked the convict petitioner how bail could be awarded until he surrendered to face the imprisonment.

Finally, the court dismissed his bail.

Meanwhile, the court fixed February 8 in the convict's appeal against
the family court’s punishment and summoned the lawyers for initiating arguments.

It is pertinent to mention here that convict Ghulam Hussain’s first marriage was with a woman Neelum and second marriage with Kalsoom without the first wife’s consent.

Later the first wife went to the court for fighting the legal battle against her husband.

Finally, the first wife won the case against her husband.

After that the convict had challenged the verdict in district and sessions court where the family court’s order was upheld.

The convict then approached the Lahore High Court and challenged the conviction order.

Meanwhile, the convict also sought a pre-arrest bail until the final decision of his appeal.
