ISLAMABAD:

The Ministry of Interior on Friday approved the request of former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed to provide him foolproof security amid threats to his person and family.

A letter written by the Registrar’s Office on January 27 sought for the retiring judge foolproof security at home and during his travels.

The letter stated that according to Article 25 (1) of the Supreme Court Rules, security is provided to the chief justice even after retirement.

It added that the lives of the former CJP and his family were in grave danger. In order to avoid any untoward incident, it was imperative that the former top judge and his family be provided security (rangers, police).

The ministry has approved the request and the ex-CJP will be given a security squad, consisting of rangers and a police team.

Justice Gulzar had retired on Tuesday.

IMTIAZ KHAN | 2 years ago | Reply It s unjustified to provide security to retired judges etc at public expenses. We as tax payers don t forgive our share n claim on day of judgement. Why they don t do justice n fairly work n later fear ask for protection. This wd also be bribery for pleasing power n govts. Those who do justice need not to fear.
