Cantonment hospital starts treatment of heart patients

Newly-established unit gets medical specialists, paramedical staff.

The Rawalpindi Cantonment General Hospital (CGH) Emergency and Outpatient Department (OPD) has started treating heart patients at the newly-established Department of Cardiology.

Heart specialists and support staff have been deployed in the department during the first phase. Further, outpatient and emergency medical treatment, along with basic facilities, have been installed in the OPD.

More facilities will be provided and the number of heart specialists and supporting staff will also be increased in the cardiology department during the second phase.

With the establishment of this new facility, the burden on the outpatient and emergency department of the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) will decrease.

All outpatient and emergency treatment facilities, barring first-aid facilities, have been installed in the department. Now, a Computerised Tomography (CT) scan, Angiography, Echo, Cardiography, Exercise Tolerance Testing (ETT), Calcium Scoring, and Echocardiogram (ECG) will be available to the patients who visit the hospital.

According to hospital sources, 200 ETT tests have so far been carried out in the hospital in the last 15 days, in addition to seven ECG tests.

In the second phase, indoor admission facility will also be provided in the cardiology department, in addition to raising the total number of heart specialists.

Cantonment Board sources confirmed that there was a lot of room in the CGH, which could be utilised for the expansion of the cardiology department. The expansion process will facilitate the citizens for treatment of heart diseases and minimize the burden on other hospitals in the city, the said.
