Five die as van plunges into ravine in Lahore

The vehicle lost control due to over-speeding and collided with a pickup truck before falling into the drainage nullah

At least five people died and three others were injured when a speeding van collided with a pickup truck and fell into a nullah near Halloki, Lahore on Sunday.

The driver of Hiace-2753, coming from Raiwind, lost control over the vehicle near Langra Phatak area and hit a pickup truck carrying bricks before plunging into the ravine.

Those who lost their lives in the incident included 24-year-old Adnan, son of Allah Rakha, seven-year-old Faizan, son of Shehbaz, 24-year-old Sherazi son of Hussain, 45-year-old wife of Mushtaq and 40-year-old Rukhsana, wife of Shehbaz.

The injured, identified as 47-year-old Amna, wife of Hidayat, 12-year-old Zeenat, daughter of Allah Rakha, and eight-year-old Ali, son of Hassan, were transferred to the Lahore General Hospital.

Earlier this month, six people were killed and 35 injured in a bus accident in Bahawalpur. The accident took place on a highway and the bus driver was also among those killed.

In July 2021, five passengers including two women were killed and another 25 sustained serious injuries when a Rawalpindi-bound bus turned turtle near Jaman Shah due to over-speeding.
