Customs intelligence seizes large quantity of smuggled liquor

At least 5,681 bottles and cans of spirits of foreign brands recovered from two houses in DHA

KARACHI:

The Directorate of Customs Intelligence Karachi has seized a large consignment of foreign liquor in a raid under anti-smuggling operation.

This consignment of liquor containing 5,681 bottles and cans was first smuggled by sea to Balochistan and then to Karachi. This was stated by Director Customs Intelligence Karachi Saqib Saeed while addressing a press conference on Friday. He was accompnied by Additional Director Omar Shafiq at the press meet.

He said that smuggled foreign liquor and beer were recovered from two different bungalows in Defence Housing Authority (DHA).

During the raids, Customs seized 2,201 bottles of smuggled liquor of British, French and other European brands and 3,480 cans of beer. He said that the seized liquor was worth Rs62 million. Authorities have registered a case and arrested two persons involved in the smuggling. Responding to a question, he said that the arrested persons were being interrogated and information was being obtained from them regarding ringleader of smugglers and the owners of the bungalows. Further action will be taken under the Customs Act if the bungalow owners are found involved.
