ECC likely to approve Rs500b for census

Approval of aid package for Chinese workers is also expected in today’s meeting

ISLAMABAD:

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet is likely to approve a technical supplementary grant of Rs500 billion for conducting census and enumeration across the country.

According to the meeting’s 15-point agenda, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune, the meeting will discuss approval of aid package for Chinese workers when it meets at 11 am under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin.

The finance minister will chair the session virtually as he has contracted the coronavirus.

The meeting is also likely to approve a technical supplementary grant of Rs8.5 million for the administration of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

Moreover, a technical grant of Rs60 million might be approved for repairing helicopters used by Frontier Corps (FC) Quetta, and for purchasing spare parts. Rs3 million may also be approved for repairing and purchasing of the same for FC Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).

The meeting is also likely to approve the re-allocation of standard and lapsed funds.

Moreover, the ECC may also grant approval to the resumption of the committee set up on the Roosevelt Hotel.

The committee is expected to approve an increase in the export quota of samples of exportable items. It is also likely to remove 45 per cent regulatory duty on the import of chickpeas from Afghanistan.

The ECC will also review the possibility of ending the Pakistan Credit Guarantee and setting up a new company with a shareholding of the Government of Pakistan and Karandaz.

It will also take up for discussion a summary related to the Kamyab Pakistan Programme.

The ECC will also consider a summary of urea requirements for the Rabi season.
