KARACHI:
An operation was carried out on Tariq Road last night against encroachments adjacent to Madina Mosque which was led by Director Anti Encroachment East and Assistant Commissioner Ferozabad.
During the operation, about a dozen shops, houses and a religious seminary were demolished using heavy machinery. A large number of area residents had gathered at the spot, however, no one interfered in the government work. In view of possible commotion, SHO Ferozeabad Inspector Khushnood Javed was present on the spot along with a heavy contingent of police.

Director Anti-Encroachment East Zahid Bin Khalil said illegal shops were demolished during the operation. There were 10 illegal shops in Dilkusha Park. The shops were built at the back side of Madina Mosque.
He said that the operation was being carried out on the orders of the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, talking to The Express Tribune, one of the residents of demolished houses said that he has been living in the 250-square-yard house for the last 50 years along with his eight brothers and their family. He said a case was pending at the court in this regard.
"If this place is illegal then why the government has kept its eyes closed for the last 50 years," he said. He appealed the apex court that if his house was illegal then the Sindh government should be ordered to provide him an alternative place so that he can live with his family.
