KARACHI:

A security guard was killed after falling mysteriously in the elevator duct at an apartment block in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.

The deceased was the brother-in-law of Salman Mujahid Baloch, a former MQM MNA. He expressed doubts over the incident and said it could be a murder. According to police, a man was killed after falling in the elevator duct of Al-Samad Tower near Gulshan-e-Iqbal Baitul Mukarram Mosque in the Aziz Bhatti police station lemits. The deceased's body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by the volunteers of Chhipa for post-mortem examination. The deceased was identified as 55-year-old Tariq Javed, son of Muhammad Aslam.

SHO Adeel Afzal said that the deceased was a security guard of the building, and as usual, he came to work on Monday morning, but did not reach home. His family contacted the management of Al-Samad Tower. When they searched the premises they found his body in the elevator duct.

The SHO said that the administration told police that the electricity had gone out on Monday, and after the power came back on, the guards would check the elevator, etc., and it is suspected that he fell into the elevator duct during this time. However, it could not be immediately determined from which floor of the building he fell. Police are further investigating the incident.

Baloch says that the late Tariq Javed was his elder brother-in-law. He was a resident of New Karachi and used to work as a security guard in Al-Samad Tower.

He said that on Monday night, the son of the deceased had come to the building in search of his father. The administration told Javed's son that he went home in the afternoon. The deceased's son went to the building again on Tuesday morning. Still, they again denied it and said. he left yesterday without bothering to search for him. However, when Tariq Javed's brother went to Al-Samad Tower on Tuesday evening, the administration gave him the same answer they had given to his son. Aziz Bhatti, brother of the deceased, said he would go to the police station to complain, but shortly afterward, the administration called him and informed him that Tariq Javed's body had been found inside the elevator's duct.
