Speakers highlight the importance of raising awareness on labour rights

LAHORE:

In celebration of International Migrants Day on December 18, 2021, the Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) Pakistan, in collaboration with the Labour and Human Resource Department, Government of Punjab, organised a conference on “Protecting Workers’ Rights on Thursday.

The issues faced by workers, exploitation of their rights and lack of awareness on laws, rights and responsibilities, came under discussion.

This conference brought together over 50 participants from academia, government policy makers, national and international experts in the field of labour migration. The participants also to explores the strategies adopted by the government in order to address the challenges faced by workers and Pakistani migrants, with particular reference to protecting their right in destination countries.

The speakers highlighted the importance of awareness rising on labour rights, which are possible through effective communication policies and community level interventions by institutions working on migration and using social, electronic and traditional media.

Minister for Labour and Human Resource Department Ansar Majeed Khan said the major reason to celebrate International Migrants Day is to highlight and raise awareness about the rights of migrants.
