ISLAMABAD:

Protesting teaching and non-teaching staff of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) continued their boycott of schools on Monday against the federal government’s decision of putting educational institutions under the Islamabad mayor under Section 166 of the Local Government Ordinance 2021

The FDE Joint Action Committee, meanwhile, has decided to involve parents of students to join their protest.

The third round of the talks could not take place as Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood has gone abroad.

The mid-term examinations in FDE institutions have already been postponed as their strike entered the ninth day.

The FDE Joint Action Committee meeting was convened under Chairman Fazal Maula.

Fazal Maula said some 423 educational institutions were working under FDE for the past six decades. He said that the students studying in these institutions clinch take top positions in board exams and admissions were given on merit.

He said that educational institutions had been given under the control of the Municipal Corporation Islamabad through an ordinance and they had serious reservations about the decision.
