HYDERABAD: A 70-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman got married out of their own will but they had to settle their family’s opposition after a payment of Rs140,000.

A resident of Hala Naka, Abdul Majeed Pathan married a resident of Kotri, Fehmida, six days ago after an alleged deal with her father, Muhammad Ismail Shaikh, in which Pathan promised to pay Shaikh to marry his daughter.

However, Pathan failed to give money to Shaikh, who filed a kidnapping case against him at Qasimabad police station five days ago. The couple was arrested from Saima Plaza in Hala Naka on Tuesday and was presented before civil court number eight on Wednesday.

According to the police, the marriage took place after a deal between Pathan and Shaikh. Fehmida’s family refused to talk to the media at the courts and reached a settlement before the court announced its decision. Nevertheless, Fehmida gave a statement before the court under 164-Criminal Procedure Court in which she said that she married Pathan out of her own will and was not kidnapped. After hearing her statement, the court allowed her to stay with her husband.

The court also ordered the police to eliminate the case as all legal procedures have been taken care of.

Police officials believed that Pathan had made the payment to Fehmida’s father and that is how the case settled down.
