Puppet show highlights obligation of children, parents

To create awareness among the people regarding the rights and responsibilities of children and parents, the National Puppet Theatre (NPT) organised a two-day theme-based puppet shows at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts.
These shows include message-oriented performances on various socio-economic issues and their solutions.
They also aimed to support orphan children and their families by providing equal opportunities for quality education of girls and boys, provision of nutrition, clean water, and to create a clean environment for their growth. Lastly, they hope to protect children from drug addiction, to create awareness among children against laborious work, and against sexual and physical abuse. NPT conveyed these messages through the stories of “Meena Ki Kahani” and “Roshan Mustaqbil”.
“Mina ki Kahani” is a story of a village child girl who, despite of her urge to receive education and go to school like her brother, was denied of her right to education. Somehow at a later stage, her parents realise the importance of education for girls, and allow her go to school.
Meanwhile, “Roshan Mustqbil” is a story of three orphan children, including two brothers and a sister, who are street hawkers and housemaids. They earn their livelihood through hard labour. Their employers take responsibility for their education, promoting a message to encourage well-off families to support orphans and less privileged communities.
Promotion of puppetry in Pakistan, and its use as a strong medium of communication, to create awareness on socio-economic, social issues and their solution, ethics and moral values, diseases, their treatment and prevention, are the key objectives of the council.
The theatre is working in collaboration with public and private sector organisations, especially those working in the fields of education, health, social welfare, child and women’s rights protection and social issues. PNCA, through message-oriented art and cultural activities, provides platforms to the public to create a common sense of responsibility amongst the public.
