K-P medical tribunal defers doctors’ suspension
The K-P Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Tribunal on Saturday deferred the suspension of doctors by the Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH) administration. The hearing has been adjourned until December 6.
On the petition of an ATH Abbottabad Assistant Professor, the MTI tribunal suspended the termination by the hospital administration. This was granted on the written assurance by doctors that they would start institution-based private practice inside the hospital in the evening.
Meanwhile, citizens have also demanded a decrease in specialist’s fee, which has been set at Rs1300, although they were charging a Rs1000 fee in clinics.
Doctors have asked for the provision of facilities, according to the MTI Act, from the ATH administration and Board of Governors.
Earlier, in the second week of November, the ATH administration served notices to the doctors to abandon their private clinics, and to start practicing inside the ATH premises in the evening according to the MTI Act.

After the lapse of the deadline on November 22, the administration served a final notice to the doctors, warning them to start evening practice within three days on hospital premises. The administration said they would be suspended otherwise.
Thirteen senior doctors of ATH, instead of following the directives from the administration, opted to obtain a stay order from MTI tribunal.
